Jan 29th, 2009 | By Mayda | Category: Farmer's Markets, Food Pantries, New Farmers, Victory Gardens

An interesting concept at community food bank in Arizona that runs community gardens and farmer’s markets in underserved areas. They have  a program where home gardeners and local farmers can sign up and drop off produce at the stand to be sold on consignment.  No resold produce all must be grown locally by the participant. [...]

Bill Moyers interviews Michael Pollan

Nov 30th, 2008 | By frijolitofarmer | Category: Farmer's Markets, Food Pantries, New Farmers, Victory Gardens

PBS recently aired an interview with Michael Pollan about American food policy, changes he’d like to see the Obama administration make to localize agriculture, and the wishes of some that Pollan be appointed Secretary of Agriculture. The video is in two parts and also features farmers markets and community gardening in New York City.

Food Pantry Ideas

Sep 3rd, 2008 | By Mayda | Category: Food Pantries

I have an idea on how to help food pantries get more local and fresh produce during the season.
There are several farmer’s markets around the city, all with vendors that bring alot of produce during the summer season.  Could an organization organize and train volunteers to make the rounds at these markets and talk to [...]
