Lauren,

The only such place I know of around here is a restaurant, and I don't know whether they do catering, but it would be worth contacting them. Nothstar Cafe uses local ingredients and supports the Ohio Ecological Food and Farm Association. Last summer, a couple identifying themselves as caterers came to me interested in buying chicken feet for making stock, but they didn't give me the name of their business, nor did they say that they principally use local ingredients.

If you find a caterer willing to work with you, consider ordering from Frijolito Farm. I raised my first batch of chickens for the purpose of catering my own wedding.

Hi! I'm wondering if you have any suggestions of caterers who work with local farms to develop their menus. My sister is getting married in Ohio late this July and wants to serve local food. Do you have any ideas of a company to contact who might be able to provide some tasty and good treats?

A friend of ours had told us that you can have up to five within city limits as long as none of them are roosters. I've heard of people having them but I just wanted some documentation in case there were complaints or questions from the neighbors. I've e-mailed the dept of agriculture. I'll let you know if they get back to me.

getting chickens into Columbus would be a big deal for a lot of people. Gary Cox an attorney who was/is working on the raw milk issues last year and another local cap city chapter of OEFFA were looking into litigation on this issue. Lisa had been reported and was looking for consideration on this. Not sure where it went. Both of them are listed in the OEFFA membership directory. An article from a paper in Cleveland reported that they were lowering their restrictions. They already had looser restrictions that allow chickens in the community gardens there last I heard. You can also check on the Urban Chicken website for national news and other links. I will email Gary for an update.

Hi Rachell, That is a good question. The last we heard was that it is not allowed in the city of Columbus, but these regulations may change from time to time, so I may be wrong. It used to be a few years ago that you could keep a few hens, but not roosters. You should call or email the city's code enforcement office for clarification. If you find out please post an update here so that others may benefit.

If it is in fact prohibited, perhaps we can begin a letter writing campaign to urge officials to change the rules.
Thanks.

Hi -
I stumbled upon your site looking for any regulation about keeping chickens in my backyard within city limits. Do you know where I might find that information? I would like to get a few chickens but my husband wants to be clear on the law first.
Thanks,
Rachell
